From Our Pantry to Yours: Community Comes Together for Holiday Food Drive

September 2024 - Kiersten Bliss

In commemoration of 9/11, members of the Bass Lake congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently participated in a Community Non-perishable Holiday Food Drive.

Youth ages 8-18 walked and distributed over 900 flyers to local neighborhoods in the Cameron Park and eastern El Dorado Hills area. The flyers contained the addresses of donation sites—driveways of local church members geographically spread out in the community, as well as a list of suggested holiday food items such as canned cranberry sauce and sweet potatoes, that the Food Bank of El Dorado is hoping to collect in preparation for the upcoming holidays.

There were 15 food collection barrels picked up from the Food Bank of El Dorado and dropped off at the pre-determined locations. The community donated 732 pounds of food in just a 4-day period. The Food Bank was very appreciative and so was the smiling “Food Dude” that greeted everyone who helped fill up his Food Bank barrel. To find out how you or your group could help the Food Bank of El Dorado County, email them at info@foodbankedc.org or call them at 530-621-9950.
